The Baldwyn High School Bearcat Tennis Team won the Region 1 District 1A&2A Championship on Tuesday at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

The team will advance to the first round of the team championship which is scheduled to play Monday, April 18 with Baldwyn as host. All 12 of the players who played at the district tournament on Tuesday qualified to advance to the individual state competition to be held at Oxford Tennis Center May 9-11.

Winners of the district tournament included Meridith Morris – Girls Singles Champion; Ashton Martin – Boys Singles Runner-Up; Casey Cagle and John Lovell – Boys Doubles Champions; Jacob Harper and Micah McKinney – Boys Doubles Runners Up; Kody Hollin and Hannah Bridges – Girls Doubles Champions; Amy Roberts and Savanna Martin – Girls Doubles Runners Up; and Alexian Starks and Ashton Armstrong – Mixed Doubles Champions. Coaches are Demi Roberts and Susan Winstead.

“We are very proud of our whole team and individual players. We realized at the beginning of the season state playoffs were a possibility for several of our players. So we set a goal to win the district tournament. They have worked very hard this season to earn this championship,” Coach Roberts said.
